I feel like I am surrounded by boys all the time... that's because I am. The warm weather has been a great outlet for their energy. Isaac has been slower to climb and develop upper body strength, so I have been making an effort to get to the park a couple times a week to encourage his climbing skills. He has gotten stronger over the past couple months and is now pretty good at climbing on everything at the playground.

I didn't know a 1 year old could have a Valentine, but Micah seems to have a crush on a girl named Lylah. I watched her a couple weeks ago for the day, and Micah has been saying her name several times a day since. When I say it's time to go to school and play with his friends he says "Lylah"(she does not even go to his school).

Micah on the Mends

As many of you know, Micah was in the hospital last week for bronchiolitis. He has had problems with wheezing the last 2 colds he has had this winter, but this one was much worse. They think he has asthma and has since been started on asthma medication so hopefully this does not happen again. I took him to his pediatrician on Tuesday for wheezing with a cold he had woke up with that morning. His oxygen level was low in the office, and did not improve much with breathing treatments. So they sent us to the ER where they gave him some strong meds and he was stabilized and discharged within two hours. That evening when the medication began to wear off he started to have problems breathing again, and I had to take him back to the ER. From there he was admitted and ended up having to be put on a vent for awhile and transfered to the ICU Wednesday night. By God's grace, Micah quickly improved, and by Thursday evening was starting to look more like himself. We were able to leave the hospital on Saturday. It was wild to see how quickly kids can get sick, and then rebound. We are thankful for all of your prayers, meals, and support. My mom coming down to help us for a couple days which was a huge blessing. Micah is back to his spunky self and getting into trouble as usual. I realized how much I love his inquisitive personality, even though it keeps me busy every minute he is awake.

There used to be a garage on the house, but previous owners converted it into an in-law suite. We are actually renting it out currently to a friend. The people who build it did not properly insulate and heat it. The result was the pipes freezing about a week after Micah was born and flooding several rooms. So in this room and the bedroom, we put in new flooring and painted it

Trip to Atlanta

We took a trip to Atlanta this past weekend for Luke's cousin Ryan's wedding. Both boys did great in the car thanks to our new mini van. I can't believe we are mini van owners! The hotel stay with two boys was less than ideal; so no more hotel stops in the near future.

Micah's Surgery Update

Micah's surgery went great yesterday and he is recovering well. He is quite the little trooper! His lip and nose look like they are healing well. We are having to feed him with a syringe, so it is a slow process. He is staying in the hospital tonight, but we are hoping to bring him home tomorrow.

Isaac was a much smaller baby, so Micah growing so much in 2 months is uncharted territory for me. I couldn't figure out why his diapers and clothes were too small, but after the doctor's visit my questions have been answered. He needs size 2 diapers and 6 month clothing.

Micah Jacob was born yesturday (November 30th) at 1:50 pm weighing 6 pounds 13 ounces and was 19 inches long. It was Luke's birthday yesturday too, so now he has to share his birthday. Micah has a small cleft lip and no cleft palate. We are truly blessed.

Isaac has a dairy allergy, so he has never been able to eat regular cookies and I guess I have not taken the time to make him his own batch. The other day I found some cookies at Trader Joes that did not have any milk in them. He enjoyed the first couple bites of it, but then went for the tomatoes instead. I was disappointed that he didn't like the cookies more, but I guess I should be thankful he likes fruits and vegetables so much.

Baby #2 Update

Baby Aull #2 is doing well, and growing on target. We have had several ultrasounds the past couple months, but there has not been a lot of new things learned. What we do know is that the baby has a cleft lip and probably a cleft palate, but will not know more until after he is born. So I guess we will have to wait six more weeks to find out. In the meantime I have been meeting with a couple surgeons to learn what the steps are for correction.

It has been a challenging journey trying to accept the news that our baby will look different. We know in our heads that God has formed him this way for a reason, but it is hard to accept this with our hearts. Recently I read this from a book by Max Lucado and it really spoke to me about this issue. "How can God be both strong and good? How can you explain birth defects, hurricaines, AIDS, or genocide? If God cares, he isn't strong; if he is strong, he doesn't care. He can't be both. But according to the Bible, he is exactly that. The problems is not the strength or kindness of God. The problem is the agenda of the human race. We pursue the wrong priority. We want good health, a good income, a good night's rest, and a good retirement. Our priority is We. God's priority, however is God."

We went to Nashville Shores, a water park here in Nashville with Tammy and Donovan last week. Isaac continues to be fearless in the water and when we let him walk around the kiddie pool with no floatie, he would just try to plunge under the water and wait for someone to pick him up. I thought having his whole face under the water would phase him, but it didn't at all. He just kept on doing it.

Baby Boy #2

Here are some ultrasound pictures of our baby boy from a couple weeks ago. During the ultrasound we learned that he has a cleft lip, and another ultrasound this week showed that he probably has a small cleft palate. It has been hard news to hear, but we are now both accepting the situation. We knew that it was always a possibility because Luke had the same thing, but it still has been hard. We know that God has made this baby boy just how He wanted him to be. Please keep us in your prayers!

Fourth of July

We went to a wedding for one of Luke's friends on the Fourth of July at the Belle Meade Plantation. Isaac didn't exactly sit still for the ceremony, but it was outside so he could run around on the side and no one really noticed. He loved the lights on the dance floor and never stopped moving the whole time we were there.

Ear Tubes

Poor Isaac has been sick off-and-on this past month with an ear infection. We finally decided to get ear tubes put in on Wednesday. He tolerated the procedure well and seems to be feeling a lot better. Here he is passed out! (flash on camera didn't even phase him)

We went to Holden Beach in North Carolina with Luke's family for their annual beach trip. Isaac had fun playing in the sand and water. He got sick half way through the week with an ear infection which put a bit of a damper on the trip.

Spring Time Projects

The flooding caused damage to the lining in our pond, so we decided to make some other improvements to our pond along with replacing the lining.

We have had a toad make our pond his home this spring. He has been a great addition!

Isaac loves his blueberries. I think he is a bit addicted to them due to the large quantity of blueberries I consumed while pregnant.

G-ma and Pop came for a quick weekend visit and got Isaac some new PJ's (he's sporting them here) and a pool.

We are excited to share that we are expecting another little one around December 4th. Mayebe this one can steal Luke's "birthday thunder". Below is the six week ultrasound we had done several weeks ago (looked like a peanut then; much bigger now). I am 12 weeks now, and the baby had a strong heart beat at my office visit this week. Isaac is excited to be a big brother.

We had two days of straight down pouring rain in Middle Tennessee over the weekend. A lot of Nashville is now under water. We are blessed to live on a hill, but we even had a couple feet of water in our crawl space. Luke sported his waders and tried to get some of the water out.

Country Music 1/2 Marathon

My cousin Jenelle came all the way from Iowa to run the Country Music 1/2 Marathon this past weekend.

Luke and Jenelle ran most of the race together. Luke decided to take off the last two miles. Luke finished in 1:47

Isaac, Kate, Joe, and I watched the race early Saturday morning. We had a great rest of the weekend hanging out, going out to eat, and playing some games.

Isaac's favorite drawer in the kitchen is the one with plastic utensils and plates. He goes through it numerous times a day and empties it on the floor. I'm getting tired of finding spoons all over the house, so I just replaced most of the drawer's contents with toys and other random kitchen items. Now I'll have other things to pick up instead of the utensils.

Thanksgiving

We had planned on going to South Carolina for Thanksgiving this year, but our plans changed. Luke came down with the flu 1 1/2 weeks before Thanksgiving. He recovered, and then Isaac became sick with a fever a week later. We assumed Isaac had the flu, but it turned out to be Roseola after we had canceled our travel plans. Luke was able to go to Atlanta for the day though, and have Thanksgiving dinner with his family.
We had our Japanese students over for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner (thanks to Kroger).

Isaac got an early Christmas present from Grandpa and G-ma. He did a great job opening the package. It was a singing dog named Scout.

Isaac loved our trip to Phoenix to visit Adrianne and Chris. His favorite parts were the warm weather, swimming, shopping, and playing with her dog Stephie.

Another Road Trip

We went to Iowa for a family reunion last week with my mom's side of the family. We stopped half-way and stayed in St. Louis for the night, and toured a little bit of the city. Isaac is still working on crawling. He is now saying "mama" and "dada". I'll try to catch him saying it and try to record it one of these days.

The Month of May

We had quite a busy month, so it has taken me awhile to post some new pictures. But here they are with a summary of the month.

At Luke's cousin Deanna's wedding

We went to Hawaii for a week to visit friends on Oahu. We left Isaac behind with Luke's parents since it would have been a long flight for him

Nanna Jan came to visit for a weekend. We went to Opryland Hotel, shopping, and looked at some beautiful southern homes.

My grandfather Graber passed away last week. So we made a last minute trip to Iowa to be with family. Aunt Kristin enjoyed some quality Isaac time and gave him the new trendy outfit he is sporting in the picture

My parents, sister Tammy, and baby Madison came to visit for a week over Easter. We had a lot of fun taking the little ones to the zoo, downtown, farmer's market, and getting their pictures taken together. It was a full house!

Last weekend was the Country Music Marathon here in Nashville. We had my cousin Jenelle visit with six of her friends. We had a great time getting to know all of them. Luke ran the 1/2 marathon and did great. Isaac and I enjoyed watching everyone run the race from the side line and running the shuttle service.

Isaac is now eating rice cereal daily and enjoying it. He not only enjoys eating it, but also blowing bubbles with it and getting it all over his face. A whole new adventure. I'm debating over whether I should make my own baby food or just buy it. The verdict is still out on that one.

My mom was here last week while Luke was in Las Vegas for a work trip. It was great to have an extra hand around the house. We were able to go on walks, shop, paint the office, and rearrange Isaac's room to make it more baby friendly. We patched up the holes in the wall in Isaac's room where the pictures were, but the paint didn't match. I'm not sure what happened. It was the same paint we used a year ago. I guess paint sometimes chantges over time with the sunlight. So I guess I made another project for myself.

I was able to visit my friends Steph, Brittany, and Erica in Washington D.C. over Valentine's Day weekend. I t was a lot of fun to catch up with them and see a few sites of D.C. We were able to see the National Cathedral and walk around Alexandria. It felt like it was a flashback to college, and I sometimes I had to remind myself that I had a little one back in Tennessee. I guess it's taking awhile to realize that I'm a mother.

Luke was able to hold down the fort at home with the help of his parents (G-ma & Grandad) and our family friend Joyce. Isaac enjoyed his time with them, and even rolled over for the first time while they were here.

Isaac had his four month checkup this past week. He was 14 pounds (16th percentile) and 26 inches long (71st percentile). He's a long and lean little guy. We are going to try rice cereal very soon now.

Changing Weather

It is amazing how one day it is 30 degrees here in Tennessee, and then a week later it is in the 70's. This past weekend it was in the 70's and we were able to go to the park for a walk. Sadly we know the weather will be chilly again very soon. Here is a picture of Isaac in his snowsuit, and then another taken when it was warm out. All he wore was his onsie and his new sun hat at the park yesturday.

Tummy Time

Isaac is starting to see objects and colors more clearly. He is really starting to enjoy his play mat and toys more and more. This has made tummy time a much more enjoyable experience. He's starting to hold his head up more and more as you can see in the picture. When he gets frustrated and worn out from lifting his head, he resorts to sucking on his hand for comfort. We have also been reading books, and his favorites so far are Mother Goose and The Twelve Days of Christmas.

Luke has been busy at work lately, and has been studying for his Certified Financial Planning exams he has been taking. There are six parts, and he is currently working on the third.

I have decided to cut back at work again and will be going casual part-time. I will try to work about one day a week, but will be able to take as much vacation time as I want. I am excited to spend more time at home with Isaac, and have more time for friends and volunteer activities. I have really enjoyed the women's Bible study at my church, and have been able to meet other women with children.

Christmas

We spent Christmas this year packing and driving to Orlando for Luke's family reunion. Isaac did great on the drive down, which may have been due to the fact that we stopped in Atlanta for the night before finishing the rest of the drive. The drive home was a different story. Isaac did not enjoy spending the long trip back in his car seat, and he made us quite aware of this fact. No more long road trips for awhile. We enjoyed spending time with Luke's family and the warm Flordia weather. I am not use to dressing Isaac in such warm weather. Luke spent a lot of time playing sports with his uncles, his favorite part of the trip. I got to hang out with Isaac some by the pool, and also was able to have a break sometimes when Isaac's grandparents watched him. Isaac seems like he has grown so much recently. Today I went through his clothes and packed up a lot of the 0-3 month sizes.

Continuing to Grow

Isaac had his two month check up this week. He is now 10 pounds 12 oz and 23 inches long. It's hard to believe he is almost twice as big as when he was born. Isaac was not happy about the vaccines that came along with his visit, but he seems to be over that now. The pediatrician said everything looked great. He is starting to smile a lot more now and becoming more interactive everyday. It has been bittersweet going back to work. I enjoy time to return e-mails and interact with adults, but at the same time miss spending the day with Isaac. I have gone back part-time, and am only working 2 days a week now. My sister Kristin has been in town this week and has been a big help running errands, watching Isaac, and helping clean. We took Isaac to see the lights at Opryland for the first time. He enjoyed his stroller ride view of the countless lights.

Thanksgiving

We took our first road trip with Isaac to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving. It went smoother than we originally had anticipated. He slept most of the trip (now his sleep schedule is thrown off and he is staying up late at night). We had a great time visiting with family and friends. Isaac got to meet his cousin Madison, and I think she motivated him to start becoming more active. Madison was very fascinated with having a baby around the house. We celebrated Christmas while we were there. Isaac got a lot of presents, and he even dressed up as Santa and Madison was Mrs. Clause. We also celebrated Luke's birthday while we were there with cake, presents, and ice skating. He was pretty good at ice skating considering he is from the south. Luke and I were able to go to Chicago for a night while my parents watched Isaac. It was fun to see the lights and do some shopping, but the best part was sleeping through the night for the first time in two months.

Starting a Blog page

I decided to start a blog to share pictures and updates of what our family is up to (mostly what Isaac is up to). Since we have a lot of family and friends who live far away, we hope it will be a great way to share what is happening here in Nashville. With the new addition to our family, I only have internet time when Isaac allows for it (which currently is not very much). So there will not be daily posts (weekly posts would be a good goal).
